The Most Relaxing Colors to Include in Your Living Room Design

Change in your surroundings can help spark change in yourself!  A large part of how we experience the world is in our homes. We handpick everything from the art to the hallway rugs, and we must know how much each decision affects us.  Color plays a massive part in this, and in our living rooms, we have to keep it in mind.

Relaxation is king; here are a handful of colors that can spark peace in your mind.

White

It may seem obvious, but clean and fresh white fabrics and surfaces put our minds at ease.  It lends a feeling of serenity to almost every room it’s included. Use it mindfully, though, because too much white can leave a room feeling clinical instead of soothing.  Focus on soft white surfaces, like blankets and couches, rather than polished white tables or light fixtures.

Blue

There’s a reason most spas and saunas have blue as one of their primary colors.Β  It brings out the imagery of the ocean and sky. Both are vast constants that can be serene to watch.Β  The paler or more muted the blue, the better. Vivid colors are the enemy of keeping soothing vibes in your living room.Β  Muted blue walls can help put your mind at ease while you relax.

Gray

Another neutral color, warm grays, can also help you relax.Β  They’re uncomplicated, simple, and our eyes quickly move over the shade.Β  Gray is the right color for couches, where you can let brighter pillows suck up all of the attention.Β  Don’t overuse grays, remember that it’s essential to let your personality shine through in your living room interior design.

Green

Greens, especially earthy tones, are another color that speaks to something primal in our human nature.  Light, mossy, greens are another excellent choice for wall colors. They soothe and bring our minds down into a calm, relaxed feeling.  Greens are more comfortable on the eyes and can allow you to focus on what you want to pay attention.

Creams and Off-Whites

Although white is essential and soothing, the same can get said for off-whites.Β  These beige hues are softer and more relaxed than white.Β  If used correctly, they can lull you into comfort, but if not, they may seem dingy.Β  It’s essential to keep in mind how much of them you’re using and how. Eggshell, cream, and other colors of the sort make a great wall color.Β  It’s not as piercing or clinical as pure white, and are easier on the eyes.

Conclusion

Your home needs to fit your tastes above anything else.  If these colors aren’t what helps you relax, then look for a color scheme that suits you!  Some colors, like yellow and orange, are divisive since people’s opinions get generally split on them.  It’s your home, though, and if you find one of these colors soothing, then go for it! Take whatever design steps necessary to help you feel at peace in your own home.
